saturday september 6 2008 - it's on again - yay! It's on again - the opportunity to find out if you have what it takes to be a champion camp oven cook! After missing last year's event Bruce and Mim are really looking forward to the 2008 Camp Oven Cook Off. Especially as it was the biggest and best event yet!! So the challenge is there to make 2008 the biggest and bestest ever. And now that it's winter there are no excuses for not getting your team together, pulling out the camp ovens and working on those secret recipes. As in previous years, we will give you the basic ingredients - lamb or beef, carrots, onions & potatoes - and all you have to do is provide the skills and know how! We are currently getting a beautiful team of judges together for this event including the fabulous Peter Russell-Clarke, the magnificent Matt Preston, the beautiful Vikki Hardwick (longest running & we believe the hardest working judge), the gastronomic Peter Randall (The Aga Shop Australia), the futuristic Neil Henson and the crazy but entirely loveable Neil Pigot. As you can see most of the judges from last year have pleaded to be allowed to stay on the judging team so what could we say? They love your food!! Following on from the success of last year we will once again offer prizes for the best damper and for the best dessert / cake cooked on the day. This is not a compulsory competition but it seems quite a few of the teams are sooooooo organised on the day they have nothing better to do than to cook a three course meal - that's confidence for you! And remember, there will be a prize for the best decorated site. So let your imagination run wild and theme up those outdoor kitchens. (a la the lot pictured below!)
produce market is back again with all our lovely local producers We have about 20 different food & wine suppliers joining us to present their wares. Competitors will be able to source the best ingredient to give their dishes the winning touch while non--competitors have the opportunity to sample and purchase some of this regions best! The produce market in itself is a stand alone event and is well worth the effort. This is a fabulous event for everyone, a great family and friends day and all start on a level playing field! The teams make of it what they want. First prize in either lamb or beef is $700. Plus there wil be prizes of local produce hampers for 2nd & 3rd, dinners at the Redesdale Tavern, novelty prizes and more. Located in the middle of central Victoria over 500 people all cooking in a paddock with their camp ovens, does it get much better then that? Back to basics a great old Aussie tradition!! For further details and to receive a team registration form please contact Mim Ward on 03 5425 3111 or email info@redesdaletavern.com.au And if that is not enough -- remember this is a major fund-raising effort the Redesdale and Mia Mia CFAs. Just before the long dry summer there is no better recipient.
